Home health aides act as a bridge to independent living for many seniors, as well as those with disabilities who may also require assistance with activities of daily living. From monitoring your vital signs and physical or mental condition to assisting you with grooming, hygiene, and chores around the house, home health aides allow you or your loved ones to maintain the familiarity and dignity of living at home.
The HHA’s duties include:
- Administering prescription and over-the-counter medications.
- Take your vital signs and record them.
- Collecting samples for testing.
- Educating you on proper nutrition.
- Helping prepare meals.
- Assisting you in going to doctor’s visits, shopping, and other errands.
- Spending time with you for various activities, such as going to the park, reading, talking, or playing games.
- Assisting with exercises.
- Providing basic personal care, such as bathing, dressing, and grooming.
- Performing light housekeeping duties.
- Replacing sterile dressings and monitoring wound healing.
- Assisting you in an out of bed and/or transferring to or from a wheelchair.
- Helping with the laundry.
- Keeping records of home visits and what services were performed during the visit.
